Jusung An, Ph.D.

Jusung An received his B.S. degree Summa Cum Laude in Chemistry from Hallym University in 2018 and earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Korea University in 2024 under the guidance of Professor Jong Seung Kim. His doctoral research focused on the Development of advanced fluorescent probes for detection of amyloid biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease, leading to significant contributions in early diagnostic strategies.
He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the laboratory of Professor Liviu M. Mirica at the Department of Chemistry, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he continues to pursue interdisciplinary research at the interface of organic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, and chemical biology, with the goal of developing novel molecular tools for imaging and diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.
During his Ph.D. program, he was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) Ph.D. Student Fellowship for Young Scientists. He also received the Ph.D./Postdoctoral Academic Award, jointly presented by the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) and the American Chemical Society (ACS). In 2025, he was nominated by Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) as a Young Scientist participant in the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings (Chemistry).
